Key Issues in Special Education: The Road to Turning 22 (May 16, 2017)
On May 16, the MASC Special Education Committee invites members to join them to discuss current issues surrounding Special Education in Massachusetts, including IEP regulations and best practices for transitioning to 22, available services provided by DDS including "after 22" programs, and other critical issues in special education.

Webinar: How Schools Improve by Engaging Families
MASC members are invited to join "How Schools Improve By Engaging Families," a free EdWeek webinar on May 2 hosted by our friends at Panorama Education, to learn how these districts are building strong family-school partnerships.
On the webinar, Dr. Karen Mapp, Commissioner Ken Wagner, and leaders from the Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) and Denver Public Schools (DPS) will share strategies for engaging and empowering families in the service of student success.
State Resources, Easthampton Schools: Fixing the Funding System
The state's funding formula (referred to as Foundation Budget) was developed in 1993 and remains unchanged, even as the past two and a half decades have brought extraordinary changes to the public education landscape, including MCAS requirements, new state curriculum frameworks, budget losses to charter schools, the rise of expensive modern digital technologies, and increased expenses associated with addressing students' complex social and emotional needs.
In the absence of appropriate state funding, districts must either cut services or place a disproportionate burden on their local taxpayers.
