FBRC Findings and Progress - March 9, 2017

Please join MASC Divisions 4 and 8 for a discussion regarding the Foundation Budget Review Commission, its findings and the progress we've made so far, including presentations from FBRC members and state legislators. The workshop will take place following the Massachusetts Association of Vocational Administrators (MAVA) Conference. Those attending the MASC event are welcome to participate in MAVA's program (and MAVA attendees may also attend the MASC workshop!).

MAVA Breakout Sessions (4:45pm)

The workshop will take place following the Massachusetts Association of Vocational Administrators (MAVA) Conference. Those attending the MASC event are welcome to participate in MAVA's program (and MAVA attendees may also attend the MASC workshop.) The MAVA sessions begin at 4:45pm.

New Chapter 74 Program Approval
Representatives from the Department of Education to present the new process and timelines.

Assabet Valley Regional Vocational School
This session will focus on a new formative assessment technology tool called "Plickers" which helps teachers know where students are at in terms of their understanding during the lesson. The technology will be included in the session to show participants how this free and engaging online tool can check for student learning during the lesson.

Essex North Shore Agricultural and Technical School
In an effort to improve teacher quality and retention, Essex Technical High School has changed the model of teacher orientation and mentoring by appointing one (1) master teacher to work with all of these new professional staff members. This session will focus on the thinking behind this model, the development of the role, and some thoughts on initial implementation of our work.

Chapter 74 Programs in Comprehensive High Schools
A roundtable discussion by CTE Vocational leaders offering Chapter 74 Programs in Comprehensive High Schools. Scheduling CTE classes within the academic schedule, assuring that the schedule provides adequate time to meet the Vocational Technical Frameworks, budgeting, and development of new programs.
