Workshop: What Does the Future Hold for Education Funding?

Adequate, Equitable, Reliable – What Does the Future Hold for Education Funding?

Hosted by Divisions II, III, IV, and IX and the Suburban Coalition

Many of your committees have supported the Resolution Calling for Full Funding of the Foundation Budget Review Commission’s Recommendations. This meeting is an opportunity to bring the issue to the next level by discussing with Legislators how we can work together to make adequate, equitable and reliable funding a reality in Massachusetts.

We are very pleased that Representative Alice Peisch and Representative John Rogers will be joining our panel. Representative Peisch is Co-chair of the Joint Committee on Education. She was also Co-Chair of the Foundation Budget Review Commission. Representative Rogers is a member of the Joint Committee on Education. He has filed a bill, HD4531, An Act Strengthening Public Education in the Commonwealth, which would legislate implementation of the Foundation Budget Review Commission’s recommendations.

John Robertson, Director of the Massachusetts Municipal Association’s Legislative Division, will also be joining the panel. The MMA had representation on the FBRC. Because Chapter 70 often represents the largest component of local aid, the MMA is also a strong advocate of adequate, equitable and reliable funding for education.

Please join us to be part of this important discussion and feel free to invite other local officials from your community as well. There is no charge for this event, but we ask that you do RSVP by Monday, May 9.
